bathroom restoration town hall, braintree.

our client.

A refurbishment of the male and female toilets was required for the Braintree Town Hall.

the brief.

The Braintree Town Hall is host to many weddings and other functions and as such there was the need to update the toilets to improve their presentation and privacy. The Town Hall is a listed building and therefore the client was looking for a partner with experience of refurbishing period and listed buildings. The refurbishment works included modernising and refreshing at the same time as maintaining the style of the building.

turnaround time.

18 weeks from concept to completion
12 weeks planning (including a 6 week wait for listed buildings consent)
6 weeks build

the solution.

The biggest task was to redesign the layout of the female toilets so that the cubicles became closed off from the lobby. This was achieved by building a partition to keep the two separate. New walls and a false ceiling and the moving of light fittings were required to accommodate the existing style of the building.

Both male and female toilets were given a deep clean, tap refurbishment, woodwork restoration, redecoration, new boxings around pipeworks, new light fittings and sanitary wear.

Listed Building consent was required to complete the works. We helped the client make the submission for the Historic Building consent, including the provision of drawings and the project brief.

Other works included a new water heater to meet regulations for hot water production per person in the size of the venue.

the outcome

The toilets are now modern, clean and no longer impact the Town Hall’s main lobby area. The client was extremely happy with the result, appreciated our support with obtaining the Historic Buildings consent and the care taken not to interrupt the weddings and functions that were held throughout the project.

back to projects.

We chose to work with Most Interiors as we were looking for a partner with experience of refurbishing period buildings. We wanted to maintain an authentic look and feel of the Grade II* listed building while creating a clean and modern feel.
The process was very well managed from our first site meeting through to sign off. Time lines were agreed in advance and were adhered too. The Most Interiors team were also flexible to our needs when we required the toilets for weddings and functions at weekends.
We found William and the team a pleasure to work with, and as a result we will definitely work with Most Interiors again in the future.
